A study conducted by researchers at China’s Jilin University has revealed a link between the use of cholesterol-lowering drugs (statins) and a reduced risk of colorectal cancer by up to 23%.
The study, which analyzed data from nearly 640,000 patients across seven scientific trials, found that the protective effect was particularly evident among patients who had taken these medications for more than five years, suggesting cumulative anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects.
The researchers also emphasized the potential for these drugs to be used in the future as chemopreventive agents for individuals at higher risk of developing colon cancer.
