Meta, the parent company of Facebook, plans to lay off 600 employees in its artificial intelligence division, according to U.S. media reports published on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
According to The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, the layoffs will not affect “TPD Lab”, a unit founded by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
The reports note that the number of employees at “TPD Lab” grew rapidly as the company sought to recruit top researchers from competitors such as OpenAI and Apple, offering them high-paying job offers.
The job cuts will target teams working on AI products and infrastructure, aiming to increase efficiency without compromising work on the company’s most ambitious projects.
The New York Times also reported that these layoffs come after a massive hiring spree the company undertook to build its artificial intelligence program.
