Study Reveals the Link Between Coffee and High Blood Pressure

Coffee is one of the most popular morning beverages. It gives the body an energy boost and contains antioxidants that help protect against several diseases. However, despite its many benefits, people with high blood pressure should consume it with caution.

The caffeine in coffee can cause a temporary increase in blood pressure of about 5 to 10 mmHg, which can pose a risk for individuals with unstable or already elevated blood pressure. For this reason, experts recommend that these individuals consult their doctor to determine a safe daily caffeine intake.

Studies show that the effect of caffeine on blood pressure varies from person to person: for some, it causes no issues, while for others, it can lead to a noticeable increase.

One cup of coffee contains about 100 mg of caffeine. Health guidelines recommend not exceeding 400 mg per day, which is the equivalent of three to four cups at most.

Doctors warn that exceeding this limit may lead to anxiety, sleep disturbances, and digestive problems, in addition to its potentially harmful impact on blood pressure in sensitive individuals.
