Study: Walking More Than 90 Minutes a Day Reduces Risk of Chronic Lower Back Pain

A recent study from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology found that walking daily for more than 90 minutes at a comfortable pace can lower the risk of developing chronic lower back pain by up to 23%.

The research involved over 11,000 participants who were equipped with precise sensors to track both the frequency and intensity of their walking. Findings revealed that consistency and duration of walking had a stronger impact than the intensity of physical activity itself. This highlights moderate, sustained walking as an effective tool for preventing musculoskeletal disorders, which rank among the leading causes of disability worldwide.

Moreover, the study’s results reinforce previous research showing that walking provides wide-ranging health benefits, including strengthening the heart and arteries, boosting blood circulation, improving immune function, and reducing body fat through calorie burning. These benefits become even more significant when walking at a brisk pace.
