Is Your Daily Diet Speeding Up Hidden Signs of Parkinson’s

A research team from Fudan University in China has uncovered a concerning link between regular consumption of ultra-processed foods and the emergence of early indicators associated with Parkinson’s disease. The study, which spanned over 25 years and involved more than 43,000 adult participants, found that frequent intake of items like sausages, processed breakfast cereals, and soft drinks may significantly increase the likelihood of developing preliminary symptoms such as sleep disturbances, depression, loss of smell, and bodily pain.

The findings revealed that individuals who consumed at least 11 types of ultra-processed foods daily were 2.5 times more likely to experience three or more Parkinson’s-related symptoms, compared to those who consumed fewer than three types.

Although the relationship is not definitively causal, researchers believe the evidence is strong enough to recommend reducing the intake of processed foods. They advocate for a diet based on natural ingredients to support brain health and lower the risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases.
