Meta Raises the Stakes on Artificial Intelligence

Meta is rapidly advancing its efforts to cement its position in the field of artificial intelligence by building a new team dedicated to developing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) technologies. The company has begun attracting top-tier talent from major tech firms to support this mission.

According to Bloomberg, Meta has successfully recruited Jack Rae, a prominent researcher from Google’s DeepMind unit, as well as Johan Schalkwijk, the former head of the machine learning team at Sesan AI, a company specializing in voice-based AI technologies.

Reports also suggest that Alexandr Wang, the founder and CEO of Scale AI, is a strong candidate to join the new team, especially following Meta’s substantial investments in his company, which focuses on large-scale data labeling and training smart models.

To secure these rare talents, Meta is offering significant financial incentives—reportedly in the tens of millions of dollars—including stock grants and long-term bonuses spread over several years. Sources indicate that the new team may include around 50 employees, with Mark Zuckerberg personally leading the initiative and conducting direct interviews with prospective members.

These moves highlight that Meta is not merely trying to keep pace with competitors—it is aiming to lead the next generation of AI technologies. Artificial General Intelligence is expected to be a central focus in the global innovation race over the next decade.
