Google acknowledges deleting some users’ timeline data and reveals available solutions

Google added that if the user had enabled data backup, they could recover this data. However, in reality, some users are having difficulty restoring their data even after enabling the backup.

Google is facing criticism from users who shared their experiences on the “Reddit” platform, with some mentioning that they lost all their timeline data despite attempts to restore backups. One user stated that after restoring data from the backup, they found that the data present in their timeline for 10 years had disappeared, leaving only two weeks of data. Others also mentioned losing years of memories and trips saved in the timeline since 2012. So far, Google has not disclosed the number of affected users, but it seems the issue has impacted a large number of them.

For those who have a backup of their data on the Google Maps app, they can restore it by updating the app to the latest version, then going to the timeline section, tapping the cloud icon at the top of the screen, and selecting the backup option to recover the available data.
