An Italian Newspaper Launches the First Print Edition Based on Artificial Intelligence

The Italian newspaper Il Foglio has announced the publication of the world’s first print edition entirely created using artificial intelligence, without any human intervention from editors.

In a statement, the newspaper explained that it is launching a one-month experiment, during which a daily four-page issue will be published using only AI, alongside the traditional ten-page edition.

This new edition relies entirely on artificial intelligence technologies, particularly ChatGPT from OpenAI, which generates articles, headlines, summaries, and selects key quotes. The system produces content in response to questions posed by journalists, showcasing the advancements of technology in the media industry.

The newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Claudio Cerasa, stated that this project is part of an experiment aimed at exploring the impact of AI on journalism and media workflows.

He emphasized that this issue represents the world’s first daily edition entirely prepared using artificial intelligence, from writing articles to generating headlines, quotes, and summaries. The journalists’ role in this experiment was limited to asking questions to the AI tool and reviewing the generated responses.

Founded in 1996, Il Foglio is now the first newspaper in the world to publish an edition entirely based on artificial intelligence, highlighting how rapidly editorial work is evolving due to modern AI technologies.
