Morocco Post, in coordination with the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, as well as the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), has issued a special postage stamp dedicated to the art of Malhoun, on the occasion of the first anniversary of its inscription on the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The new postage stamp was unveiled on Friday at the Morocco Post Museum in Rabat, in the presence of prominent figures, including the Director General of Morocco Post Group, Amine Benjelloun Touimi, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication – Culture Sector, Samira El Mlizzi, and the Director of UNESCO’s Maghreb Office, Eric Falt.
Titled “The Art of Malhoun, Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity,” the stamp depicts a musical ensemble performing a Malhoun piece in traditional Moroccan attire, set against a blue background adorned with patterns inspired by authentic Moroccan zellige. This design reflects complementary elements of Moroccan heritage and highlights the aesthetics of this ancient art form.
This philatelic issue aims to celebrate the art of Malhoun as a cornerstone of Morocco’s rich cultural heritage. This art form, a living symbol of the transmission of Moroccan traditions across generations, embodies the richness and diversity of Moroccan heritage.
