Morocco and Gabon to Enhance Cooperation in the Justice Sector

Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, and his Gabonese counterpart, Paul Marie Gondjout, signed, on Wednesday in Rabat, a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of justice between Morocco and Gabon.

The MoU is meant to consolidate bilateral cooperation and broaden its scope to include technical areas related to judicial administration, the exchange of experience, know-how and best practices, and the organization of scientific meetings to capitalize on the advantages of both countries’ judicial systems.

The agreement, which forms part of the strengthening of historical and cultural ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Gabon, and of the drive to support African integration, also emphasizes the importance of legislation in improving the level of judicial administration in response to economic and social developments.

Speaking at the end of the ceremony, the Gabonese Minister of Justice stressed that “Morocco is a model in terms of judicial reform”, noting that cooperation in this field between the Kingdom and the Republic of Gabon represents “a golden opportunity to develop our judicial system”.

On this occasion, he highlighted the “age-old nature and sustained development of relations between Morocco and Gabon”, expressing his country’s desire to “consolidate exchanges with the Kingdom for the benefit of our two peoples”.

“Strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of justice will enhance local capacities and raise the standard of justice in both countries to new horizons, paving the way for a bright future marked by justice and stability,” stressed Gondjout.

Ouahbi said that the signing of this memorandum of understanding marks a crucial stage in the history of bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Gabon.

“This agreement is not just an official document, but a concrete expression of a shared vision aimed at building a strong, modern justice system capable of meeting contemporary challenges”, underlined the Minister.

In this respect, he pointed out that strengthening judicial cooperation between the two countries “will lead to concrete results that will contribute to improving justice systems and consolidating the rule of law, thus strengthening our position at regional and international levels”.
