The Decline of Breastfeeding in Morocco Alarms Experts and Health Professionals
Morocco is experiencing a significant decline in breastfeeding rates. In fact, only a third of Moroccan newborns are exclusively breastfed for the first five months of their lives, and only 40% of mothers manage to breastfeed their babies within the first hour after birth.
This low rate, compared to international standards, is causing deep concern among experts and health professionals. Questions arise about the causes and consequences of this decline. According to UNICEF data, the rates recorded in Morocco are lower than the African average where breastfeeding reaches 45%, but remain higher than those in Tunisia (13%), Oman (23%), and Jordan (25%).
