The esteemed American music review site, Pitchfork, has listed the 25th edition of the Essaouira Gnaoua and World Music Festival, scheduled to take place from June 27 to 29, among the “most anticipated” music events of 2024.

In a feature article by Boutayna Chokrane, Pitchfork, a global reference in music criticism, underscores that since 1998, this festival has been bringing together artists from Africa and around the world to the city of Essaouira to blend their melodies with traditional Gnaoua music.

The American website, distinguished by its in-depth analyses and music reviews of releases and concerts, adds that the program for the next edition of the festival includes the participation of 400 artists, including 35 “masters,” for 53 performances spread over seven stages.

Among the most notable participants in this edition are the group “Gnawa N’dili”, “Buika”, “Elyse Séléna”, “Issam Kamal and Mazagan Group”, “Jon Batiste”, “Lapas”, “Niño de los Reyes & Sergio Martinez”, “Saint Levant” and “Brecker Brothers Band Reunion”.

The specialized site highlights that the current edition is distinguished by the organization of six fusion music concerts that will delight the audience by mixing the arts of Brazilian batucada, flamenco and Gnawa dances.

During the opening night of this major cultural event, Gnaoua music lovers will enjoy the exceptional musical encounter between master Hamid El Kasri and the group Bokanté.
