Morocco Condemns Targeting of Rafah and Warns of Catastrophic Humanitarian Consequences

Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, received a phone call on Monday, February 12, 2024, from the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Mr. Hussein Al-Sheikh. They discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly in light of the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza

During the conversation, Mr. Bourita reiterated Morocco’s steadfast stance, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chair of the Jerusalem Committee, in favor of an immediate, comprehensive, and sustainable cessation of the Israeli war on Gaza. He emphasized the urgent need to enable Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to access urgent relief aid, safely and without obstacles, and to create a political horizon for the Palestinian cause that enables the implementation of the two-state solution

Mr. Bourita expressed Morocco’s deep concern over statements by some Israeli officials regarding plans to continue attacks on Gaza, including intentions to target and breach the city of Rafah, which could lead to catastrophic humanitarian consequences

The Minister reaffirmed Morocco’s unequivocal rejection of attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians and stressed the importance of providing them with protection under international law and humanitarian law
