These specialists in strategic issues, during the program “With Morocco from Washington,” which was broadcast on Sunday on “Medi 1 TV” channel, considered that what distinguishes this year’s African Lion exercise is that President Joe Biden warned last month of new disturbing threats in the region, in the context of Iran delivering unmanned aircraft to the Polisario through Algeria, which in turn spends billions of dollars on weapons acquisition
According to Colonel David de Roche, a retired American colonel and associate professor at the National Defense University, this joint military exercise organized by the Royal Armed Forces and the US Armed Forces for the 19th edition contributes to enhancing bilateral military cooperation and exchange between the armed forces of the two countries with the aim of promoting security and stability
This specialist in Arab world affairs pointed out that the biggest challenge facing the United States’ approach to military operations abroad lies in interoperability, explaining, “We need partners and allies,” such as Morocco, and emphasizing the importance of cooperation between Rabat and Washington in confronting terrorist groups that threaten security in the Sahel and the desert
The American military expert praised the professionalism and performance of the Royal Armed Forces, highlighting the utmost importance given within the framework of the African Lion exercise to the humanitarian aspect, particularly through the establishment of a field surgical hospital that provided services by Moroccan and American medical and semi-medical teams of various specialties
In turn, the expert in international affairs, George Landreth, mentioned that the “African Lion” exercise is the largest military maneuver in Africa jointly organized by Morocco and the United States, with the participation of European and African countries
During this monthly television program, produced in the American capital and presented by Ambassador and former spokesperson for the US Department of State, Adam Ereli, it was noted that this year’s edition of the exercise holds greater significance due to the increasing threats in the region
Landreth added that it is a “strong message to the enemies of security, peace, and freedom”
It is worth mentioning that the “African Lion” exercise took place from June 5th to 16th in several areas in the Kingdom with the participation of approximately 6,000 soldiers representing 14 countries. It is an annual meeting that contributes to strengthening Moroccan-American military cooperation and enhancing exchange between the armed forces of different countries in order to promote security and stability in the region
